La POUSSE D'OR (Volnay) Part I: 2022 Côte de Beaune Wines Tasted from Drawn-Off Samples
Harvesting took place 1-9 September. The crop was large all red wines are completely destemmed. As you can see below, the vintage was a huge success here.
The estate is organic and biodynamic and has been for a long time.
Starting with the reds from the Côte de Beaune:
2022 Santenay 1er Cru Clos de Tavannes
Leathery red fruits, medium weight fresh, energetic, pure. A delight. (91-93)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets
Lighter, pure red fruit, very Caillerets: lacy, finesse. (92-95)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets (raised in amphora)
Lighter, maybe more purity of fruit, or at least the fruit comes forth more. Lacy and delicate. (93-95)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Clos d’Audignac
Rounder, perhaps a bit denser, mineral red fruits. Very enjoyable. (92-94)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d’Or
Floral nose, round, smooth tannins, red berries, medium-weight, purity, freshness, completeness. (92-95)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d’Or (raised in amphora)
A bit lighter, more pure, perfect harmony. (93-96)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrées
Pure fine, more Caillerets character than in the past when the wine was more about 60 Ouvrées than Caillerets; excellent depth. Lovely Caillerets texture, perhaps slightly darker fruit. Silky, long. Beautiful wine. (93-96)
2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrées (raised in amphora)
Even lighter and more fine in the mouth, again darker fruit than other Volnays, very pure, fresh, and silky. (94-96)
2022 Pommard 1er Cru Les Jarollières
Darker fruit although still with red hints, perhaps slightly heavier/bigger, but not much. This is Pommard close to the Volnay frontier and it shows. Very fine in the mouth, almost a Caillerets layering. Pommard for a Volnay lover. (93-95)
2022 Corton Clos du Roi
Denser, fuller, more powerful, with great depth, length. Needs time to show its all, but this is excellent. (94-97)
2022 Corton Bressandes
More densely knit than the Clos du Roi, darker fruit, pure, precise. Also needs a fair amount of time to show its all. (95-97)
Next, the white wines:
2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
Outstanding minerality in the nose — purity, very Caillerets. Raised in 350-liter barrel, as always. Planted 1976. In mouth, pure, mineral, penetrating, lemony, very precise. Like a Chevalier-Montrachet. (95-98)
2022 Chevalier-Montrachet
Not as naked as the Caillerets, a bit more breadth and flesh here, more roundness, less wildness. Which one prefers is a matter of personal preference. (95-98)
