Fogo is the bistronomic sister of next door Episodes, which is gastronomic restaurant. They two share a common kitchen and Brazilian chef Raphael Rego is in charge.
Fogo is on the left and Episodes on the right in the picture above, with the kitchen located between the two outdoor lamps.
The two restaurants are in the space formerly occupied by Papillon and its associated épicerie. Episodes previously had been located elsewhere under the name Oka; Fogo opened early in 2024 when Episodes moved to the present location.
The interior of Fogo at lunch:
We apparently were the only non-French people in the restaurant that day at lunch.
The carte:
Fogo bills itself as specializing in grills and braises.
The lunch menu:
We both took the lunch menu.
The wine list:
Episodes, the gastronomic restaurant, has a quite grand wine list, and I imagine that one can ask for wines off it, if so inclined. I took a glass of the red Saint-Joseph from Rémi Niero, a producer best-known for his Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie, while L did not take any wine:
The wine was decent Saint-Joseph but as I’ve had good experiences with Niero’s wines in the past, I had been hoping for even more.
The first course was a salad of green beans with almonds, peaches, and white garlic. I forgot to take a picture until after I had begun the dish:
This was a delicious dish with the garlicky sauce adding extra dimension to the beans and overall the dish was very refreshing.
The generous portion of duck breast was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor:
(Again, I forgot to take a picture until after I had begun the dish.) The summer vegetables were excellently cooked, too.
We both were very happy with our meal and would have loved to have added dessert, but the ample portions of the first two dishes and the hot weather outside that put somewhat of a damper on our appetites caused us to put it off for another visit.
The bottom line:
Reflecting the upscale neighborhood, this was not an inexpensive lunch, but given the quality and the inflation in Paris restaurants these days, we felt we got our money’s worth.
