Domaine Robert CHEVILLON (Nuits-Saint-Georges) -- 2023 Tasted from Barrel
Bertrand Chevillon said that harvesting took place between 11 and 18 September. He did some sorting of the grapes. The estate has very old vines and that kept the yields down, and alcohols are about 13º natural. Malolactic fermentations finished in the spring of 2024.
As usual, from top to bottom, the wines are of outstanding quality, notwithstanding the challenges of the vintage.
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges vieilles vignes
Fresh dark fruits in the nose — very pretty. The mouth is pure with dark fruits, minerality, freshness, and precision. This is topnotch village wine. (91-93)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots
The Chaignots has smoky, spicy minerality in the nose. The Vosne influence of its position on the northern portion of Nuits is clear. The mouth is light, pure, and elegant, again with Vosne-like spice to the fruit. (92-94)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots
The Bousselots is more four-square than the Chaignots; it is has less spice and a bit more body. This needs more time, but is promising. (91-94)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières
The Perrières is light on the plate with good grip to go with its red fruits. It is perhaps less stony than usual but there still is some stoniness here. (92-94)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Roncières
Chevillon’s Roncières has a medium-weight body with a stony texture to go with dark fruits and minerality and a firm texture. This is a highly successful Roncières. (93-95)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers
The Pruliers features a very pretty, stony nose. The mouth is round, pure, and fresh with some spice to go with the fruit. (93-95)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles
The nose of the Cailles is still rather closed. The mouth is fresh, rich, broad, long, and deep. It should be a spectacular wine with some time in the bottle. (94-96)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges
On this particular, day, the Les Saint-Georges was the wine I found tops in the cellar. The wine is exceptionally dense with dark fruits, minerality, purity, and great length in the mouth. (95-97)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
Last, the Vaucrains is stonier, still, although not quite as dense as the Vaucrains, with some licorice overtones to go with the fruit. (94-96)
