Domaine David DUBAND (Chevannes) -- 2023 Tasted from Samples
David Duband said that the 2023 vintage was very generous, with yields of almost 40 hl/ha in the grand crus and 48 hl/ha in the premier cru and village appellations. The high yields were due to the very large size of the bunches. But as we’ve seen many times before, certain vintages can take higher yields, and so with these 2023s. The grand crus, in particular, are great successes here.
Malolactic fermentations were very rapid, finishing about the same time as the alcoholic fermentations.
2023 Bourgone-Hautes Côtes de Nuits cuvée Louis-Auguste
Dusty, stony nose. Very pretty red fruits, smooth, light charming. (88-90)
2023 Gevrey-Chambertin
Spicy red fruit nose with wildness that is typical of Gevrey-Chambertin. Those characteristics continue in the mouth; good density and penetration, long in the mouth. (91-93)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges
Darker fruit, good depth, smooth texture, fresh. (89-91)
2023 Morey-Saint-Denis
Very typical of Morey, lighter body, red fruits, pure. (90-92)
2023 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbè
Light, pure, red fruits, good length, elegant. (90-93)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers
Dense texture but light on palate, dark fruits, silky texture, excellent depth. (92-94)
2023 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Broc
“Broc” is formed from the first letter of each of the four vineyards that go into this cuvée: Blanchards, Ruchots, Ormes, and Chezeaux. Perfumed nose. Red fruits in mouth, minerality, light, intense, elegant. Very typical of what one expects from Morey-Saint-Denis, and a great success. (93-95)
2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Procès
Mineral, dark fruits, juicy, more “rustic” in a finesse way than others, but that is the terroir. (91-94)
2023 Echézeaux
Echézeaux-earth nose — exceptionally beautiful. Pure harmonious, round, long, red fruits, tremendous complexity. Exceptional wine. (96-98)
2023 Clos de la Roche
Stony, pure, nose with smell of fresh earth. Round, pure, long, rich, elegant, silk texture. Vineyard planted in 1960. (94-97)
2023 Charmes-Chambertin
Super nose combining all sorts of small spices and herbs. Red fruits, pure, smooth, harmonious. long. (94-97)
2023 Latricières-Chambertin
Dark plums in nose and mouth, intense, powerful, needs time. Closed for now, but very good potential. (93-96)
