The outstanding wines at this address in 2023 follow the superb vintage in 2022 that I reviewed prior to bottling. As impressed as I was at the prior tasting of 2022s, sampling several of the wines from bottle shows that I nevertheless seem to have underestimated them: the first three wines below are now showing better from bottle, while the last two are at the top of my expectations from the prior-to-bottling tasting:
2022 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir
A touch of reduction in nose; let the wine breathe or decant it. Very pure red fruits, lighter than the village and premier cru wines but lots of charm here, and I’d much rather have this than a 1er cru from a less talented producer. Nice precision and finesse, good freshness and concentration. The is just what one would hope to find by the glass in a good restaurant. 90/A
2022 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Pimentiers
Bottled mid-January 2024. Beautiful, pure, red fruit nose. Great precision in the mouth; raspberry and red currant, precise, pure. Just a stunningly good village Savigny. Drink now, but can age for 20 years, at least. 94/A+
2022 Savigny-les-Beaune Aux Grands Liards
A bit more to red cherry in the fruit and maybe a little blood/iron here, perhaps a bit lighter in the mouth, but excellent precision and concentration. Maybe a little more tannin than Pimentiers. Again, an astoundingly good village Savigny. 94/A+
2022 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières
Mineral red fruits in nose and mouth, a little licorice; pure, deep, with good tannins. Ideally store this for a few years, but it can be drunk now. More tannic than the foregoing. Excellent freshness and precision. 93+/A
2022 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons
Rounder than the Lavières (as is typical for the vineyards on the southern slope of Savigny). Almost sappy red and dark fruit, but still very fresh and pure, nice complexity. As with the Lavières, the wine can be drunk now but would be better to drink the village wines and age this for 5-8 years before beginning to drink. 94/A
