2024 Wiesbaden GG Preview Tasting: Pfalz Riesling Part VI

Many wines here in the southern portion of the Pfalz showed very poorly, notwithstanding the fact that they come from consistently reliable producers. In fact, for me Rebholz is almost always one of the stars of the whole tasting. I can only venture that the difficult conditions overall in Germany may have been especially bad here.

BERNHART

2023 (Schweigen) Sonnenberg Riesling GG (barrel sample)

Rubbery, reduced nose. Medium-weight, dense, unfocused lemon fruit. (84-86)

Unfocused nose. Medium-light, washed-out flavors. Bad bottle? ? 

2023 (Königsbach) Idig Riesling GG

 Shy, floral nose. Round, medium-weight, yellow peach, good freshness. 93/A

2023 (Gimmeldingen) Meerspinne Riesling GG

Yellow flowers nose. Yellow nectarine fruit, density, but also finesse, some layering, Very young. Good acidity. 92(+)/A

2023 (Neustadt) Vogelsang Riesling GG 

Shy citrus blossom nose. Medium-light, dense, crisp, fresh, incipient lemon/lemon curd flavors. 91(+)/A-

Floral, citric nose. Medium-weight, lemon, decent acidity; still young. 89+/B

KRANZ

Reduced nose. Medium-weight, juicy texture, lime flavor. Not bad, but undistinguished. 86/D
