2024 Wiesbaden GG Preview: Rheinhessen Part I

This section of the Rheinhessen is essentially the same as the northern portion of the Nahe (previous posting). Only a political boundary divides the Nahe and the Rheinhessen here, not terroir or style.
As with the northern part of the Nahe, the wines are good, but not as good as in previous years or the wines from some other areas in this vintage. As a consequence, you’ll notice most of the producers here are also in the Nahe.
Note that the Prinz Salm wines are 2022s.
BISCHEL
2023 (Bingen) Scharlachberg Riesling GG
Indistinct nose. Medium-weight, clear, white fruits. 89(+)/B
2023 (Appenheim) Hundertgulden Riesling GG
Indistinct nose. Mouth is clear, pretty, some plum fruit. 88(+)/B-
2023 (Siefersheim) Heerkretz Riesling GG
Spiced plum nose with some pear. Medium-light body, some austerity, good length. 90/B+
KNEWITZ

Dusty nose. Medium-light body, plum fruit, some juiciness, medium acidity. 90/B+
2023 (Nieder-Hilbersheim) Steinacker Riesling GG
Floral, mineral nose. Light body, white fruits, some acidity. Pleasant, not more. 88/B-
KRÜGER-RUMPF

Floral nose with some dustiness. Light body, mineral, white fruits, needs some time.90(+)/B+
Prinz SALM

Spicy nose. Medium-weight, some chewiness to texture, some power here, dark plum fruit. Perhaps a touch rustic. 90/B+
2022 (Bingen) Kirchberg Riesling GG
Floral nose. Medium-light, nice structure, some depth, mineral plum fruit. 90/B+
WAGNER-STEMPEL
2023 (Siefersheim) Höllberg Riesling GG
Lightly floral nose. Light in weight, some juiciness to texture, not a lot of fruit showing. 88(+)/B-
2023 (Siefersheim) Heerkretz Riesling GG
Slightly dusty nose. Medium-weight body, some juiciness, good clarity, but not great depth. Probably not a long ager. 90/B+
