2022 and 2021 Franken Riesling GG Part I -- Am Lumpen 1655, Hoheleite, Julius-Echter-Berg, Kammer, Ratsherr from Müller, Horst Sauer, Rainer Sauer, Weltner, Wirsching
Franken (Franconia) is one of my favorite regions for Riesling, but there is a problem — almost all the wine is drunk locally. But should you come across them, do try them.
As for those who complain about the traditional Bocksbeutel being difficult to store, many are now bottled in traditional Burgundy (or occasionally Bordeaux) shapes.
Max MÜLLER I
2022 (Escherndorf) Am Lumpen 1655 Riesling GG
A touch meaty in the nose, but not bothersome (to me). Round, mineral, but in a restrained manner. 90/B+
2022 (Volkach) Ratsherr Riesling GG
Lightly mineral in nose. Medium-weight, just a touch of softness on the palate, good minimality and good length in mouth. 91/A-
Horst SAUER
2022 (Escherndorf) Am Lumpen 1655 Riesling GG
Mineral, pure nose. A touch soft on palate, but good minerality, I’d drink this over the next 4-6 years. 92/A
Rainer SAUER
2022 (Escherndorf) Am Lumpen 1655 Riesling GG
Minerality in nose and mouth, but a touch of softness and a touch of sweetness. 90/B+
Paul WELTNER
2022 (Rodelsee) Hohleite Riesling GG
Floral, mineral nose. Lime, pure, light in weight, good length. 92+/A
Hans WIRSCHING
2021 (Iphofen) Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling GG
Very mineral nose and mouth — plenty of lime. Good structure, depth, long in mouth. 93/A
2021 (Iphofen) Kammer Riesling GG
Pure, mineral, medium-full, round, generous. 92/A
