I love, love, LOVE Silvaner from Franken, but this set largely falls short of expectations.

2021 (Frickenhausen) Mönchshof Silvaner GG

Adequate acidity, a bit of chalk and minerality. 90/B+

FÜRSTLICH CASTELL’SCHE Domäne

2018 (Castell) Schlossberg Silvaner GG

Crisp, mineral nose. Medium-weight, crisp, mineral, penetrating. 91/A-

JULIUSSPITAL WÜRZBURG

2021 (Iphofen) Julius-Echter-Berg Silvaner GG

Chalk and minerality, but flat on mid-palate. 87/C

Zehnthof Theo LUCKERT

2022 (Sulzfeld) Maustal Silvaner GG

Crisp, pure, good acidity, some chalkiness a bit of minerality. 91/A-

Paul WELTNER

2022 (Rödelsee) Höheleite Silvaner GG

Round, some minerality, lacks some crispness and acidity, could use a bit more precision. But not bad, not great; disappointing for this estate, though. 88/B-

Hans WIRSCHING

2021 (Iphofen) Kammer Silvaner GG

Floral, perfumed nose with some minerality. Moderate acidity on the palate, clarity, light minerality. I’d drink sooner rather than later. 89/B

2021 (Iphofen) Julius-Echter-Berg Silvaner GG

Mineral, pure, clear in both nose and mouth. Acidity is between moderate and crisp, but decent enough, some chalk in nose and mouth. 90(+)/B+
