2021 Rheingau Riesling GG Part IX -- Berg Rottland, Kappellenberg, and Pfaffenwies Roder from Johannishof, von Kanitz, Leitz, Ress, and Wegeler
Finishing up the Rheingau Riesling GG’s with a magnificent set.
JOHANNISHOF
2021 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
Honeyed, aromatic nose, very complex. In the medium-light mouth, slate minerality, pure, long, naked expression of terroir. Just a fabulous wine. 95/A+
Graf von KANITZ
2021 (Lorch) Kappellenberg Riesling GG
Floral, honeyed nose — very attractive. A little less backbone than the Pfaffenwies Röder, but sufficient. Light lemony minerality. 91/A-
2021 (Lorch) Pfaffenwies Roder Riesling GG
Fragrant, spicy nose. Light, pure, mineral, a touch of honey. A wine that dances in the mouth. 92/A
LEITZ
2021 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
Ripe, succulent, peach, some minerality; layering, length. Different style from Johannishof — this is more sensual, less intellectual; good to see Leitz back to realizing potential. 93/A
Balthasar RESS
2021 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
A bit low in acidity, and not as expressive as others in minerality, On the whole, just ok. 88/B-
Geheimrat J. WEGELER
2021 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
Round, slate minerality, medium-light, pure, long. 92+/A
