2021 and 2022 Pfalz Rieslng GG Part VII -- Gaisböhl, Kalkofen, and Reiterpfad from Bassermann-Jordan, Bergdolt, Buhl, and Winning
Immediately south from Deidesheim, there’s still plenty more of outstanding quality.
Dr. von BASSERMANN-JORDAN
2022 (Deidesheim) Kalkofen Riesling GG
Round with some limestone austerity and dustiness, but just a touch soft and dilute compared to top wines. 90/B+
BERGDOLT/CLOSTERGUT ST. LAMPRECHT
2022 (Ruppertsberg) Reiterpfad An den Achtmorgen Riesling GG
Noble austerity of limestone, purity, good backbone. 93/A
Dr. BÜRKLIN-WOLF
2022 (Ruppertsberg) Reiterpfad In der Höhl Riesling GG
Round, sensuous, earthy citric, some structure, still needs a couple of years. Good length. 92+/A
2022 (Ruppertsberg) Gaisböhl Riesling GG
Apple blossom, chewy, medium-weight, medium concentration, good for early drinking. 92/A
Reichsrat von BUHL
2021 (Ruppertsberg) Reiterpfad In der Höhl Riesling GG
Allspice, floral nose. Intense in mouth, chewy, dense, round, less energetic than Höfstück, but still lively. 93/A
2021 (Ruppertsberg) Reiterpfad Hofstück Riesling GG
Lime-tinged nose. Medium-light, intense, wiry, pure lime fruit, great energy/electricity. Hofstück means the portion reserved for noble court, and it shows. 95/A+
von WINNING
2022 (Deidesheim) Kalkofen Riesling GG
This cask sample shows a complex orange blossom nose with a touch of vanilla. The mouth is round and smooth with limestone dustiness, perhaps a touch of vanilla. (91-93)
