2021 and 2020 Franken (Franconia) Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) GG -- Bischofsberg, Centgrafenberg, Hundsrück, Maustal, Schlossberg from Fürst, Hofkeller Würzburg, Luckert, and Steintal
This post kicks off my reviews on Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) GG tasted at the end of August in Wiesbaden. German Spätburgunder had been making major strides, but this year, with some exceptions, there were major steps backward.

2021 (Bürgstadt) Centgrafenberg Spätburgunder GG
Medium-weight, smooth texture, perhaps could use a touch more acidity. Some creaminess of texture. Needs more time. 88(+)/B
2021 (Bürgstadt) Hundsrück Spätburgunder GG
Medium-weight, creamy texture, dark fruits, but no real precision here. 88/B
2021 (Klingenberg) Schlossberg Spätburgunder GG
Medium-light, crisp, pretty red fruits, good purity, medium-depth. 90/B+
Zehnthof Theo LUCKERT
2020 (Sulzfeld) Maustal Spätburgunder GG
Ripe, round, fruity, dark fruits, but lacks precision of a better wine. 87/C
Staatlicher HOFKELLER WÜRZBURG
2021 (Grossheubach) Bischofsberg Spätburgunder GG
Some brett here; I can tolerate it in this amount, but many won’t. Dense, light on palate, dark fruits, needs time to integrate. 87?/C
STEINTAL
2021 (Bürgstadt) Hundsrück Spätburgunder GG
Bretty, band-aid. Should not have been submitted. No rating.
2021 (Klingenberg) Schlossberg Spätburgunder GG
Bretty nose — merde/band-aid. In mouth, light in weight, pure dark fruits, tannin. I have a high tolerance for brett, but this was too much. The wine should not have been submitted. No rating.
